What does the decorating year have in store for us? Discover the 2023 home decor trends that will influence our desires and the style of our interiors.
I’m always eager to find out what the trends will be for the coming year; what will make us vibrate and what we will less want to see in our interiors. Here are the 2023 home decor trends that will set the tone for the next decade.
This year, I noticed that a new wind was blowing drastically on the world of decoration and interior design. New ways of animating our spaces are emerging while others are running out of steam.
If the beginning of our century was marked by a certain minimalism, decors composed of neutral colors, grays and white, rather uncluttered square furniture and sometimes impersonal bare spaces, we are approaching the 20s with much more desires. sophisticated.
Currently, we can observe a craze for more rounded antique furniture and salvaged objects from the past. The colors around us are also richer and more enveloping. We dare to live in spaces where patterns prevail. We tend towards less wise interiors where the mix of styles gives way to a world that is much more personal, sensual and steeped in history. But, don’t worry, white will always be on trend!
Style: Current Trends
Broc’arty style
Some people qualify the Broc’arty style as the new country style. Timeless furniture, farmhouse table, sideboard and caned chairs, elegant accessories with precious finishes garnished with gold or brass and the arty touch make up this decor which seems to tell us the story of the occupants of the house. I like the fact that, 100 years later, the works of art and furniture of the Avant-garde period are showcased. Without doubt my favorite decoration trend of 2023!
Eclectic Bazaar Style
The “Eclectic Bazaar” look is a style mix that offers the reuse and recovery of furniture and objects that belonged to the past. Collections, grouping of surprising objects and disparate furniture in motley style give the decor a more personal character.
Nomadic Bohemian Style
The Boho style is still very much in vogue but is gaining in maturity. The decor becomes more mature, refined and graphic, influenced by North African motifs. Berber cushions and rugs, Moroccan poufs and artisanal pottery mingle with antique or vintage furniture to offer us a decor that makes you want to travel.
Revisited Art Decor style
The revisited Art Decor style is also quietly resurfacing 100 years later. Strong geometric shapes, spheres, circles, polygons, trapezoids, zigzags, chevrons and solar rays are the main characteristic of this style with pure and symmetrical lines. Luxurious materials and rich colors await you.
Scandicraft style
The Scandinavian style that we know is evolving towards the Scandicraft. The comfort of soft materials and user-friendliness in all simplicity are still there, but the style now offers raw and natural materials that are more eco-responsible and artisanal elements. Curved lines, warm colors, wicker, light wood, rattan and cane make up these soft and refreshing decorations.
Japandi style
Cross between the Scandinavian style and the Japanese style, the Japandi combines the minimalist functional side of the one and the elegance of the other. Following the principles of Wabi-Sabi, a philosophy that teaches to appreciate beauty in imperfection, the Japandi style offers us a universe where softness, neutrality, simplicity and authenticity reign. Patinated raw wood elements with imperfect finishes, artisanal ceramics and accessories made from soft and natural materials make up these soothing and serene decors.

The bold wallpaper
To brighten up a house wall, we dare the wallpaper with large patterns. Flowers, vegetation, birds and forest animals win our hearts. In dark colors or in pale colors, we are spoiled for choice.
Recover
In response to the environmental movement, the decoration turns to upcycling by recovering objects and diverting them from their original function. The trend for restyled furniture is growing. However, instead of painting them all in white as during the heyday of Shabby Chic, we give the furniture a greater presence by daring strong colors. My favorite place to find beautiful treasures? Recups, a company located in Mirabel which has a fairly impressive inventory of used furniture ready to be transformed or adopted as is for an authentic style.
Collect
There are some precious things that we can’t get rid of. A strange passion for something that brings us happiness and satisfaction. Why not display these pretty things that make our hearts vibrate and thus catch a smile while looking at them.
Artisanal ceramics
Hand-made pottery is very popular. Tableware and decorative objects add warmth and authenticity to our home. In Quebec, we are fortunate to have very talented artisans to create magnificent pieces that are sometimes works of art in themselves.
Curiosity cabinets
Curios and display cases are making a comeback, presenting us with unusual objects and intriguing collections. Pleasure in the eyes and instant smile on the lips. Once again, it will be easy to find this kind of furniture in a bazaar, classified ads or at Recups. Don’t like old furniture? Ikea also offers a nice selection of display cases and small cabinets.
Caning
Popularized by the German cabinetmaker Michael Thonet in 1859 with the ?14 chair, cane weaving, which is a weaving of strips of rattan cane, is making a comeback with the same elegance as we know it.
Terrazzo
Used to decorate the Venetian palaces of antiquity, terrazo returns to adorn our homes. Essentially used on walls and on the ground in terms of material, the terrazo motif is now available on several other surfaces. It will be found among other things on textiles, on various objects and on wallpaper.
Velvet
Great favorite of textiles this year, velvet is invited on the seats, cushions, curtains and other elements that we like to touch. It adopts trendy colors and brings a little chic side to our interiors. One of my favorites: the orange velvet couch created by Element de base that can be found in the apartment of Living by Lo, an Instagrammer that I follow with interest.
