Our interior is a cocoon where we must feel good in order to compensate for the lack of contact that we are currently experiencing. The major home decor trends 2023 are the premise of the new decade. We need softness, comfort and sure values. We need warmth and to surround ourselves with objects that have meaning, that tell a story, preferably our own.
If the majority of the trends that we see since 2022 are still very present especially in terms of styles, new elements have been added. Some trends have been confirmed and are here to stay. Here are the novelties for the home decor trends 2023 which will bring joy and happiness to our interior… because planning and decorating your home means taking care of yourself by offering yourself an environment where you feel good!
2023 Home Decor Trends: Objects That Tell A Story
The Mix Of Styles
Over the years, we accumulate furniture and objects chosen or not, but an object of good taste will always be beautiful. We can take advantage of the time spent at home to sort it out and keep only the objects and furniture that we like and integrate a few more current pieces into its decor. An eclectic decor where styles and eras blend together is much more personal and warm and passes more through time than an overly thematic decor.
Buy Second Hand And Relook
Consume better, consume less are words we hear a lot these days! Why not repaint that horrible melamine piece of furniture you own and change the handles? Or rejuvenate that old buffet that has always been in the family! Or, give a second life to a well-preserved piece of furniture that will give your interior more personality! Perfect for Bohemian or Granny-Chic looks! Kijiji, Market Place and several Facebook pages are full of treasure to transform or which still have all their original beauty.
Local Handmade
The handmade object is authentic and made with heart. A pretty piece bought from a local artist or craftsman will bring a lot of personality to its decor. Paintings, works on paper, vases, useful objects, bedding, household linen… Several shops offer these little wonders and many local artisans can be found on ETSY.
The Face Line Art
Is it because we miss the faces of our loved ones that this trend has been so strong since 2020? Faces and bodies drawn with a few minimalist lines, as Picasso or Jean Cocteau did so well, invade our decor! It is found on prints, cushions and on all kinds of household items.
2023 Home Decor Trends: Nature Always Present
Green Plants
In recent years, the craze for green plants has resurfaced. This year, it is in the bathroom that they will be more and more present.
Dried Flowers
Discarded for a few decades, dried flowers are making a comeback, bringing delicacy and poetry to our decorations. The pampas and romantic flowers are very popular.
XXL Plant Prints
Always in vogue, and it’s so beautiful, plant prints are found on wallpapers and home textiles. In XXL format, it’s even more impressive! Some companies even do custom prints on wallpaper, wood panels, concrete, and even Plexiglas. Personalized decor and spectacular effect guaranteed!
Nature Colors
Greens and blues are always present in our homes. Especially the olive greens and dark greens that remind us of the boreal forest and the navy blues that plunge us into the depths of the Atlantic Sea. To discover in my article on Trendy Colors 2023.
White Wood Floors
To bring light, floors in very pale colors or white wood are popular. Interesting tip for a small budget: to extend the life of a floor that you want to change, why not paint it white! Invigorating and luminous effect guaranteed! Be careful, however, to use a high resistance floor paint so as not to be disappointed. Painted floors will be more and more present! Find here the technique to whitewash your Swedish floor.
Terracotta Tile Floors
Back since last year, terracotta tiles will be more and more present in our homes. A floor perfectly in line with trends in natural materials that goes wonderfully with beige.
Zellige
We love these small, colorful and irregularly shaped Moroccan tiles called tesserae. Authentic tiles are handcrafted. Each piece is unique and brings a warm side. A more economical industrial version is also available at certain retailers.
Textured Walls
Moldings are back, but with a more modern touch. We arrange the moldings by creating geometric shapes and graphic lines for a dynamic effect or we order the lines for an elegant and sophisticated result. One of my favorite decoration trends of 2023!
The Chevrons
Recalling the chic Parisian apartments, the rafters are also invited on the walls. Whether in the bathroom, bedroom or living room, wood or ceramic, we have the work done by a professional installer for a result that meets his expectations. For a visual effect at a lower cost, we opt for a pretty wallpaper with the same patterns.
Colored Ceilings
The most daring have already adopted them; the colorful and decorated ceilings enrich the visual space and bring a touch of originality to any decor.
2023 Home Decor Trends: The Essentials
Beige
We were already talking about it in 2022, beige is indeed back. We replace the gloomy gray of our walls with warm and lively beige’s. The natural materials that we integrate into its decor will be all the more beautiful.
Lighting With Personality
In rattan, black, gold, with a multitude of globes or sculptural, the lights are real jewels in a room. Whether delicate or grandiose, lighting is a strong element. We dare a little madness that we choose with care.
Soft Curves
Since last year, curves have been in demand. Side tables, coffee tables and sofas are rounded. Spherical lights and round mirrors are very popular. The lines relax to bring us comfort and softness.
The Fauteul Lounge
Comfort being one of the greatest values currently sought, the lounge chair is becoming an essential element of the interior design. We are looking for a low model that will be one of the centerpieces of the living room or family room.
2023 Home Decor Trends for Kitchens
The kitchen is colored in navy blue, forest green, plum or black. The cabinets and the island are divided into blocks of colors, sometimes to determine the functions. The handles disappear into ergonomic doors for a more refined style. Kitchen counters go to extremes going from very thin – 1/2 inch to very thick – 3 to 6 inches. Black appliances have become very popular.
2023 Home Decor Trends for Bathrooms
To add personality to the bathroom, we dare to use an accent wall. No wall is suitable for a touch of whimsy? We treat ourselves to a colorful shower curtain. Black or gold faucets and hardware are in the spotlight. Marble, wood and metro tiles remain classics and we choose a black grout for more contrast. Green plants are added to make the space more lively and less sanitized.
2023 Home Decor Trends: Natural Materials
Canning
As elegant as you want, caning brings a touch of charm to any decor. The classic Number 14 chair by Michael Thonet or the B32 “ Cesca ” chair by Marcel Breuer, also manufactured by Thonet at the time, will be big favorites for the next few years. If you are a bit of a handyman, it is possible to revamp a piece of furniture by adding cane doors since the precious material is sold in rolls in some specialized stores. One of the 2023 decoration trends that I fell in love with!
Rattan
Natural or tinted, rattan is available in furniture and in all kinds of decorative accessories, baskets, chairs and lighting. Integrated in small doses, it brings a little warmth and a holiday feel to our facilities… And the Emmanuelle armchair is back!
Linen
As a great fan of linen, this material is for me a great classic to integrate into its decor. It is adopted for cushions, tablecloths or for ultra comfortable and soothing bedding. We love it as a sofa cover or to cover a vintage-style armchair. This durable and easy-care fabric also gently covers the windows of houses with a current country style.
2023 Home Decor Trends: Be Well At Home
Create An Inspiring Office At Home
If we hesitated a few months ago to set up an office at home, teleworking is now part of our lifestyle and is here to stay. In order to integrate it well into its decor if it is impossible to devote a separate room to it, we choose a desk and a comfortable chair that will harmonize with the rest of its environment. If working on the dining room table is the only option, storing your work equipment in a sideboard in the evening allows you to make the transition between work and life at home. The best space is the one where you will not be disturbed and ideally, we work near a source of natural light to make it more stimulating.
Surround Yourself With Softness… And Bouclé Wool
Velvet, always present in our environment, remains a big favorite. The novelty of the year: the curly wool invites itself on the armchairs and the cushions to give a little comforting and somewhat playful side to our seats. We don’t skimp on cushions, throws, ottomans and rugs! As we are more often at home, it is important to be comfortable there.
Lay Out Your Balcony
For those who are not fortunate enough to have an outdoor courtyard or simply for the pleasure of creating a little cocoon to enjoy the outdoors, having a balcony is the perfect solution! To read or reread; my article “ Arranging a small balcony ” for some ideas.
2023 Home Decor Trends: Some Trending Styles
I had already told you about the Broc’arty, Eclectic Bazar, Bohémien, Scandicraft and Japandi styles in my article on Home decor trends 2022. Always in vogue, these styles represent very well the current era. It was the often confused Grand millennial and Granny Chic styles that caught my eye this year. Perfect for reusing and reviving the family heritage!
The Grandmillennial
Hailing from the United States, this eccentric trend refers to millennials’ nostalgia for opulent homes of the past – a reaction to the more streamlined styles conveyed by their parents. Four-poster beds, fabrics and wallpapers loaded with patterns, flourishes, chinoiserie, candlesticks and baroque mirrors are in the spotlight.
The Granny Chic
More modest with a modern touch, the Granny-Chic style brings us back to Grandma with humor and gentleness. This very current trend is seen more and more in small doses in the Quebec landscape.
It Will Come Back…
I haven’t read anything about it to support this assertion, but we see more and more of them on Pinterest and the idea is gaining ground… The mosaic parquet in regular or XXL format attracts our attention and our eye gets used to it. Wait a bit before removing it; maybe you could paint or dye it a richer color or whiten it… We’ll talk about it in a few months!
It is well and truly over…
- The glossy finish
- All-over cool gray
- Stainless steel
- Chrome or brushed aluminum lights
- The backsplashes of small rectangular mosaics in the same colors
- Live edge wood tables
- Photos of animals covered with canvas such as the big buffalo or the little fox that we have seen too much
- Thematic decors
- Interiors that are too perfectly coordinated
The next decade in decoration will be daring and will give way to the imagination. Personalizing your interior so that it looks like us and is authentic will be the key to a successful decor!
