Those of you who like fresh colors in their surroundings can easily go white for Tawny Color, Equator Yellow or Bali Hai Blue, which we recommend, with a second monochromatic decor ranging from neutral palette, through the gray spectrum and up to the end made of dark graphite or black. The popular kitchen colors will be bright this season, but with a milder edge – but careful – not quite to the point of pastel.
Although the vital colors will be sufficiently present during the 2020-2021 trend period, the triumph of the dark decor in the interior will reflect the future choices of kitchen colors. Characteristic of the next period will be the introduction of colorful combinations of clear and monochrome tones and the diminished use of wood decors and finishes, which are only used discreetly.
A real wow! The factors are the black kitchen cabinets, which have such an unusual and unique vision that can easily become the focal point of any kitchen design. Indeed, the unthinkable (until recently) idea of a thoroughly black kitchen is now becoming fashionable – with, of course, the ingenuity and style typical of contemporary design.
The Vipp Kitchen is a design product that, according to its creators, is the result of a 75-year tradition of metalworking. Inspired by professional kitchens, they create this design more as a functional and cleverly placed instrument than as a decorative element of the interior. The result is functionality, stylish look and high quality in one place.
The multifunctional kitchen island – Mina of the Italian brand Minacciolo is also a metal creation with a characteristic industrial look, characterized by the colorful red handles in the style of the “faucet-tap” and the impressive presence of the suckers with their unique “retro-techno” style,
The absolutely black style of Schröder uses the two horizontal lines of the recently fashionable handle-less arrangement to give the massive monochrome volumes dynamics and elegance.
Some brands such as ALNO and BEECK do not go “full ten meters” into the black domination and use balancing white elements. In this way, the vision becomes more dramatic with a dynamic intertwining of light and dark points. The change of the opposing elements is more or less chaotic, so that the association with the chessboard is avoided.
If you are not an admirer of dark, moody colors or the other extremity – a colorful explosion, there is always the golden mean – the noble gray tonalities. They’ll never go out of style and they’re pretty handy – on a gray backyard even the simplest decoration will stand out and look like “million dollars”. The gray kitchen is a modern trend that is well combined with a second color or even a single choice, especially if the texture of the material resembles stone or concrete.
Yes, white will stay in the fashion scene, but its well-researched and entertained nature will not do it alone. To enhance the attractive look of a white kitchen, bright additional colors or geometric shapes and stripes can be used as in this Contura kitchen by allmilmö to spice up the composition. In the picture below, the designers of bau-for-mat kitchens used the fresh orange accent to liven up the white rule. But remember – the white seeks a well-deserved retreat from his fashion design positions – and how practical can the kitchen design be?
In the picture above, we can see how the architects of SABO Studio skilfully refresh the white composition of the kitchen design with the collection of rainbow soil and unusual green pots for fresh plants. But the SVOYA go even further in innovation and greening decoration while designing studio apartment in Dnipropetrovsk, where a whole green wall is introduced as a decorative element in the kitchen – dining area arrangement.
For their new kitchen design Onda, the designers of Rational create a combination of black and dark wood decor with elongated angles. After a decade of straight, clean lines, the soft shapes and curves make a big comeback in the design concept of the modern kitchen. It is noteworthy that this is not a reins of artistic curves and abstract forms, but rather like – clear geometric volumes with fine, elongated finishes. A wonderful example of this is the model Dune by Pedini. Although the presence of multiple curves and arcs is mesmerizing here, the straight lines still dominate and somewhat define the composition.
In modern apartments, the open kitchens are almost a norm. This type of spatial organization achieves (among other benefits) adequate social interaction, even during the preparation process. Often this mobility and interaction is achieved through a contemporary kitchen island solution – functional and accessible from all sides.
The cabinet section of the design arrangement often consists of an optically inseparable group, reminiscent of a kitchen cabinet with the oven area in the middle. The clever solution is to place these cabinets in a special niche in the kitchen so that everything is nice and tidy. The plus points of such an arrangement are to save space and allow a passage of movement, a clean aesthetic appearance and functionality; On the other hand, such a niche needs to be designed and planned at an early stage of home construction or renovation.
The front panel elements of the Kitchen Island are usually oriented to the living room (with open kitchen arrangement) and are often represented by open shelf and decor segments. In this way, a natural connection between kitchen fittings and the other design solutions can arise.
More and more often we see kitchens where the practical solution to construct the dining table as part of the kitchen island is an opportunity to increase the level of design and attractiveness. To be honest, the two areas – food preparation and preparation – are inextricably linked, so this modern approach is not only an area for fashion design and trend experimentation, but also a practical and meaningful choice.
The overhanging arrangement of kitchen cabinets is a fashion trend that dates back to the 80s, but was not wildly explored. The problem is that the architectural construct must be strong enough to withstand the pressure of the cabinet contents and the added weight of fittings and actions. From another side, this arrangement offers an elegant vision, easy maintenance under the furniture and unique kitchen configurations. Therefore, some designers rediscover this approach with a new inspiration, using smaller and flatter volumes and dynamic design solutions to optimize weight distribution.
If we look at ALNOCERA Concrete, the German Design Award “Winner” 2020 in the category “Excellent Product Design – Kitchen”, more closely and carefully, we will notice remarkable innovations. Starting with the heat and scratch resistance, a natural material of oxide and silicide particles, which is something for sensitive surfaces such as in the kitchen quite something. Another noteworthy innovation is the opening of the cabinets, which are very reminiscent of lifting sunshades – very practical for low-key rooms. Style and innovation – which is better?
Concrete for the season will be the concrete – its stylish use we can observe in the following pictures in the composition of KH SYSTEM FURNITURE. The delicate gray surfaces are contrasted with a caramel wood, which has very remarkable natural ornaments. This combination is a very good argument against the theory that concrete for interior design is rowing and industrial. Instead, this combination creates a sense of luxury, warmth and style in the kitchen.
These two projects by Snaidero and ALNO redefine the design composition with the contemporary version of Azulejo tiles. You can use tiles in many dynamic configurations. on the floor, as part of the furniture or wall pattern, but only if the color scheme and the compositional structure require a little refreshment and vitality. We do not recommend their use in combination with wood decor.
The black fixtures will be very entertaining this season – along with the common ovens, hotplates and vacuum cleaners, the new trend now brings a wide range of black fridges, sinks, faucets and other kitchen appliances. Of course, we should not underestimate the classic nature of inox devices. When introduced in the kitchen, the timeless effect is guaranteed.
For the Kitchen Island compositions, the extractor hoods are often chosen as structural variations of the ceilings to make the shape of the design as attractive, unusual and artistic as possible. These tendencies bring the cooker hoods close to the usual lighting solutions and lamp functions, sometimes compromising the basic function and purpose of the aspirators, but still the style is important.
In the kitchen sink and countertops trend the “hottest” application is the solid surface countertop configuration from a single material like Corian, Hi-Macs or Durat. This technique creates a visual image of a seamlessly floating surface of a single volume – the sink and worktop are seamlessly connected without visual edges. The variety of decor solutions is available in a variety of color schemes or stone implementations, and these compositions blend well with the modern concrete and ceramic cover of doors in this season’s kitchen design.
The solid surface worktops are maintained by various designers and brands for this season – in multicolor solutions and styles, made of acrylic or polyester, with prefabricated sinks or not, this trend floats in the markets. And why not, really; is affordable, easy to maintain, suitable for food preparation, and although it is not heat and scratch resistant, in reality it is difficult to dye and a bit of buff or sand will easily remove any stains. Its aesthetic and smooth look is not to be underestimated, after all, the ability to have an integral sink in the same surface as the countertop is a practical and attractive feature.
Another “hot” material for the worktop conversion this season will be the stainless steel option. Established for decades as a classic cover in professional kitchen design, it is now successfully conquering the domestic kitchen interior. It can be found in product solutions for both classes – high and medium. It is a material known for its endurance, easy maintenance, high hygiene and elegance.
For drawers and drawer solutions, the choice of designers is based on the discrete configurations, the easy accessibility even for the most difficult corners of the units and of course the convenience. To make sure that the space is used economically and cleverly and that there is nothing left on your path or stalk to hit your head, the cabinet wall design is now folding, lifting or folding doors for maximum comfort and ingenuity.
Wall units with soft lift or folding doors, particularly suitable for smaller kitchens, have an integrated look when closed and ensure maximum standing height when open. Practical for small kitchens, the folding doors or wall units with “soft-lift” solutions ensure a very tidy and stylish look and, of course, maximum headroom even when open.
Very popular, until recently, as materials for the creation of lighting solutions and decorative elements the brass and copper are now also used in the kitchen design. This special creation by Cooper Griffen belongs to the German brand Rational, and they simply look fabulous against the dark background, bringing eminent style and luxury emanation. In this composition, Cooper participates as the third decor, accentuating the material combination and balancing the entire project.
Although examples such as the previous design show that handles are an integral part of the artistic emanation of the kitchen, the latest trends are to reduce the overall use of handles. Systems such as ” touch to open ” and other handleless solutions are becoming commonplace in fashionable kitchen design. Their advantages are many – compact surfaces, comfortable use, the possibility of untraditional distribution of cabinets, more free combinations between different materials and so on. Take note of this trend for the next few years.
