Editorial Policy

Last updated: August 7, 2026

At New Decor Trends we publish practical, idea-led guidance on decorating and improving real homes — accent walls, storage fixes, cabinet colours, curb appeal and seasonal styling. This Editorial Policy sets out how that content is made, how we check it, and where our obligations to you as a reader begin.

Our Content Creation Process

AI-Assisted Writing with Human Editorial Oversight

New Decor Trends uses artificial intelligence (specifically Google Gemini) to assist in generating article drafts. This lets a small team produce thorough, well-researched guides efficiently. It does not replace editorial judgement: no AI output is published without human review.

Our process:

  1. Topic selection. Editors choose subjects based on reader questions, seasonal timing and genuine gaps in existing coverage.
  2. Research from authoritative sources. Every piece is grounded in the source hierarchy described below.
  3. AI-assisted drafting. Google Gemini produces a draft against detailed editorial guidelines.
  4. Fact verification. Editors check claims — particularly safety, code and product-care claims — against Tier 1 and Tier 2 sources before publication.
  5. Plain-language review. Instructions must be clear, jargon-free and genuinely achievable by a non-professional, with realistic costs, tools and skill levels.
  6. Review and update. Articles are revisited on a schedule and whenever authoritative guidance changes.

We write in an organisational voice. Articles are the work of our editorial team rather than a named individual, and we do not invent author personas or credentials.

Fact-Checking Methodology

Source Tiers

Tier 1 — Primary Authoritative Sources (highest priority)

  • U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) — indoor air quality, VOCs, lead paint, mould, radon
  • Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) — furniture tip-over, recalls, product safety
  • National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) — candles, heaters, electrical and fireplace safety
  • U.S. Department of Energy and ENERGY STAR — insulation, windows, lighting, appliance efficiency
  • USDA and accredited university extension services — plants, hardiness zones, soil, pests
  • Published building codes and manufacturer installation and care instructions

Tier 2 — Strong Secondary Sources

  • Professional bodies such as the American Society of Interior Designers and the National Kitchen & Bath Association
  • Trade associations for flooring, paint, tile and textiles
  • Independent testing organisations and peer-reviewed materials research

Tier 3 — Supporting Reference Sources

  • Established design publications and manufacturer technical documentation, used for context and illustration rather than as the basis for a factual claim

Source Hierarchy Rule

Where sources disagree, the higher tier wins. A manufacturer’s care instruction does not override an EPA safety guideline; a design trend piece never overrides a code requirement.

Trigger-Based Update Policy

An article is reviewed and updated when a cited authority revises its guidance, a product or material is recalled or reformulated, a code changes, or a reader reports something that no longer holds true.

Corrections Policy

Level 1 — Minor corrections

Typos, broken links and formatting. Fixed silently.

Level 2 — Factual corrections

A wrong measurement, price range, material property or product detail. Corrected and noted at the foot of the article.

Level 3 — Significant corrections

Anything affecting safety, cost or the outcome of a project. Corrected, clearly labelled with the date, and the original error described so readers who already acted on it understand what changed.

How to Report an Error

Email contact@newdecortrends.com with the article title and the specific claim. We aim to respond within five working days.

Quality Standards

  • Instructions specify realistic tools, materials, costs and time.
  • Projects that involve electrical work, gas, structural change, asbestos or pre-1978 lead paint carry an explicit recommendation to use a qualified professional.
  • Renter-friendly and reversible alternatives are offered wherever practical.
  • Images illustrate the technique being described; we do not present a photograph as a result the instructions cannot produce.
  • We do not publish content whose purpose is to rank rather than to help.

Conflicts of Interest and Disclosures
